Lucy is 37.5 inches tall and weighs 34.7 pounds. She is in the 59th percentile for height and 81st percentile for weight.
She received a chicken pox vaccination which she was not happy about. She also refused to take off her clothes for the doctor, but after some bribery and a phone call to mom, she finally complied.
Lucy is very independent and will try to do everything that Andrew does. She regularly makes a costume change at night. We will put her to bed in pajamas and then when we get her up in the morning, she has a totally different outfit on--including shoes!
She regularly makes Emmy laugh hysterically--usually when they are supposed to be in bed sleeping.
She still takes 1 nap--from 12:30 to 3:30 pm and will go to bed at 6:30 pm and wake up at 7 am the next morning.
She likes to do everything herself. She has pooped once in her potty, but regularly tells us when she is going pee in her diaper. I ask her regularly if she wants to use the potty, but she usually answers with a no.
She always wants to be a baby--she wants to be carried like a baby with her head on one side and her feet on the other. She also wants to be a dog and horse--she will put shoes on her hands and walk around on her hands and feet most places.
She loves My Little Pony--especially Rainbow Dash. She got a Build-a-Bear pony for her birthday and she named it Orange Dash--even though it is purple.
She is very observant and loves to go to Target or Walmart. She loves dance class and usually follows the directions.
She loves to read books and has started voicing characters for her toys and stuffed animals.
She loves to eat queso, pajaritos, most fruit and carrots. She does not like to eat anything that doesn't pass her inspection and is wary of anything new. She still loves orange juice and would drink it all day everyday if we let her.
Lucy is a joy to be around and makes those around her smile. We are very lucky to have Lucy in our family! We love you!

Lucy-isms
Lucy usually speaks very clearly and uses both English and Spanish, but she has some very funny sayings that I will try and remember to record here.
- "Scoop" - i.e. "Scoot". Example: "Mama, scoop so I can sit down!"
- "Pajaritos" - what she calls Fruit Loops. Example: "Mama, quiero pajaritos!"
- "Cozy" - nothing is ever "hot". She is "cozy", warm food is "cozy", there is no distinction.
- "Hawaddle" - what she calls a penguin waddle.
- "Pony Person" - what she calls her purse that looks like a pony.
- The American Flag - she calls it "scouts"--"Mom. look scouts", pointing to a flag.
- "Chinchilla" - she calls her toy caterpillar a chinchilla.

Van Gogh and Desitin
Last night after putting the girls to bed at 7:30 pm, we heard some sounds coming from their room around 9:30 pm.
Wondering what was going on, we peeked.
Lucy had decided to "white wash" the slats on Emmy's crib, her tent, her bed, her hair and her upper lip with DESITIN!
I didn't realize that Desitin smelled so good.

EGG!
Yesterday, Lucy went up to Cesar and said, "Egg". As it was near dinnertime, Cesar said, "No, Lucy, it's almost dinnertime, you don't need an egg".
She then proceeded to repeat, "Egg", but in her Chucky voice and pointed to the blue box of chocolate-malted eggs, leftover from Easter. Cesar again said, no.
In response to this second no, Lucy said, "It's my birthday*", because as everyone knows, you get whatever you want on your birthday!
*Her birthday was last week.

Two Year Stats
Lucy just had her 2 year-old check-up with her doctor today.
She is 35 inches tall (90th percentile) and weighs 30 lbs 15 oz (just 8 lbs heavier than her 7 month old sister--we won't talk about Emmy's weight percentile!)
She had a good birthday yesterday even thought she HATES being sung to (she kept saying NO, NO, NO every time anyone attempted to sing her "Happy Birthday"). And she did not eat any of her cake, but did like the Dora and Boots decorations.
She did finally say "Happy Birthday", but to Andrew and not referring to herself.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
So, my sweet Lucy, today is your 2nd birthday! You have brought such joy to our family! Andrew was so ecstatic when you were born and most days he loves you to death (except the days when you take away his toys or try to bite him).
Here is a list of the things we love about you and the things that you are doing!
Here is a list of the things we love about you and the things that you are doing!
- You talk up a storm; I think we get about 50% of what you are saying.
- Your speech is very much like those 3-D pictures that you have to squint and not concentrate too hard in order to see the image. If you don't listen too hard to what you are saying, you can actually tell what you are saying and you are speaking in complete sentences!
- Some of your favorite things to say are: Ok, ok, ok; I did it!; Oh man!; Andrew, Mama, Papa, Eminem; tickle, tickle, tickle; Molkie (chocolate milk); Juice; Bunny; Vitamin; Stroller; Brinca; Awocado (avocado); Cozy (blanket); Elphant (elephant); Boca; Manos; Nose; Hand; Ballo (for Caballo-Horse); Lala for Grandma; Julia for every little girl (because we have a neighbor named Julia that is Andrew's age); Listo; Vaminos; Bless You (after somebody sneezes.
- You will politely say someone's name in order to say something to them, but if they do not respond the second you say their name, your voice gets louder and you turn into a velociraptor and keep repeating their name until you get some sort of response--usually "What, Lucy?"
- When you want something done (i.e. putting your shoes on, reaching for something, etc.) you say "Oped it, pease".
- When you want more of something, you say "Mas ..." Examples: Mas Georgie (to watch more Curious George), Mas molkie, Mas agua, etc.
- You LOVE Curious George, Dora, and Caillou.
- You sing the Caillou song all the time. But just the word Caillou over and over again.
- You love to tickle Emmy and sometimes, if you are just around Emmy, she will burst out laughing in expectation that you will do something funny.
- You like to "pet" Emmy's head and you try to rock her in her car seat to soothe her when she is crying.
- You LOVE to be in any stroller.
- When you fall down, you hardly ever cry. And when you get scraped knees, you NEVER let me put medicine on it or a band-aid. But you constantly complain that you have an "owie".
- You LOVE shoes and call them "Patos" (short for zapatos). You usually go through 2 or 3 shoe changes throughout the day.
- You have figured out how to take off your pajamas and diaper during the night (so far we have had no poop accidents, but did have a pee accident last week).
- You still like to eat just about anything, but have been picky about what you eat lately. You have stopped eating things off the floor for the most part.
- You feed yourself like a champ. In fact, you don't ever want any help.
- You still sleep in your crib and sit in your high chair (we were hoping to pass those things on to Emmy, but we had to buy Emmy her own high chair...we're still holding out hope that you will get into a toddler bed soon).
- You lock all the doors after you close them. Luckily, you know how to UN-lock them and will do it on command when we come and find you.
- You love to go into my nightstand drawer and "explore". I usually find my things strewn about the house if you've had a chance to be alone in my bedroom.
- You LOVE Andrew and do EVERYTHING he does! It's really hard to keep you at the table to finish your dinner if Andrew finishes first, because you just want to be with him.
- You love getting Andrew off the bus after school.
- You love to be outside and it is always a fight to get inside when it is time to come in.
- You really like to pretend to fall asleep on the bottom stair. You even pretend snore.
- You still sleep with Bunny and suck on his ear to comfort yourself.
- You follow directions (you will throw something away for me, you will usually go up the stairs to get ready for bed, you try really hard to get yourself undressed, but can only do your shoes and socks at this point).
- You will ask to hold Emmy sometimes and are really good at holding her.
- You love to put on blush when you see me put it on.
- You ALWAYS have to have a vitamin when you see me taking my medicine.
- Your favorite foods are hamburger and egg, avocado, strawberries, crackers, cookies, scrambled egg, really any kind of meat, and of course any and all sweets.
- You are really good at letting me brush your teeth (this was a big change since we started using toothpaste, before that I had to hold you down and force your mouth open for me to brush them).
- You pretend to blow your nose by putting a tissue up to your nose, but then making a raspberry sound with your mouth (it just sounds like you are blowing your nose; no boogers ever come out).
- When I say the names of your body parts, you usually repeat what I say. Except for "nose". When I say "nariz", you ALWAYS say "nose".
- When we are walking, sometimes you will hold up your hand and say "Hand" for me to hold your hand.
- You will give a hug and kiss when I ask you to give someone a hug and kiss.
- You make Emmy laugh and laugh. Usually by making a funny face at her.
- You LOVE nursery and have never had a problem going. In fact, sometimes I have to pop in there to drop something off and you never pay me any mind and continue doing what you are doing. You are one of the youngest there and one of the few who never cries!
You are truly a special girl and we love seeing your personality shine through everyday. You learn so quickly and know what you want and can usually figure out how to get it. You bring such joy and laughter to our family! We are so grateful for you Miss Lucy Blanca Ortinez! Happy, happy birthday!
Love,
Mom

Lucy Got Glasses
So, at her last eye doctor's appointment, her doctor said that her eyes were worse than Andrew's were at this age. He said that if she will wear glasses, it would be a good thing, but not to wait any longer than her third birthday or there could be developmental delays.
We trooped over to Target and tried on frames. Luckily, Lucy liked the purple ones since they were the only ones small enough to fit her face.
She has had them since the beginning of April and is really quite good at keeping them on and she does much better about not standing right in front of the TV when something is on (Curious George).
She only rips them off her face and throws them to the ground when she loses her temper, which usually only happens in the evening when she is really tired.
