Labor Day 2011
Lucy giggled for the first time today! She had spit up all over me and I tickled her belly up to her neck saying "Grody, grody, grody" and she laughed so hard!

Lucy is Born!
So, because I had gestational diabetes (but not really as my blood sugar never hit above 90, I actually was hypoglycemic as my blood sugar would drop to the 40s most days after breakfast), they thought Lucy was going to be well over 9 pounds if I went to term (June 6, 2011). They wanted to induce me, but they were booked solid and therefore had to wait for labor to come naturally. The 2 weeks before my due date, I tried all sorts of things to go into labor (I was already at 3 cm and 70% effaced at that point and hoped that I could go into labor naturally and quickly). I tried a breast pump, bouncing on an exercise ball for an hour (THAT was tiring), sex...but Lucy was not wanting to leave her cozy home (my stomach)!
So, on May 31st my doctor called and said, "We have a cancellation for Thursday, June 2nd. Do you want to be induced?" I of course said yes, even though my mom was coming in on Friday the 2nd from Seattle (after having visited Maria and Jenny).
I was schedule to be in the hospital at 9 am. They told me to eat a good breakfast beforehand. We dropped off Andrew at 7 am with some friends, who kindly volunteered to watch him.
I had had no contractions since week 34, but when they checked me, I was at 5 cm! I couldn't believe I had been walking/working at 5 cm dilated. I had strep B, so they started me on antibiotics. I started a little late as I am allergic to penicillin and they didn't know that. So, by about 10:00 am I was on antibiotics. At 11:00 am, they put me on pitocin. At 12:30 pm, they broke my water. At 2:30 pm I received my epidural. At 3:08, my lovely Lucy was born! I pushed her out in 3 pushes and I felt almost everything (I had only received 10 ccs of the 100 ccs of the epidural when I had her). I pushed out her head, then they had me wait for the next contraction and I pushed out her shoulders and she was here! She weight 8 lbs 7 ozs and was 20 inches long.
She nursed right away and had a great latch!
I hemorrhaged a little, so I couldn't go down to the nursery right away, but I went down to post-partum soon after they took her. She stayed in my room and we nursed every 2 hours. She pooped 4 times within the first 24 hours (Andrew pooped once and then didn't poop for a whole week!). She unfortunately lost 10% of her body weight so she had to stay an extra night and I had to supplement with formula (which we still do, since I have a horribly low milk supply).
